Female dj / vj playing only the best bass heavy, uplifting house, breaks and techno with pre-mixed video projections of her cg creations and cool footage. Co-founder of B Beats & long time collaborator with PuttyRubber DJ / VJ.
From an early age OPGroover was always twirling & dancing. Drawn into the early ‘90s dance scene by the sounds and expressive dance, a love of breakbeat began. OPGroover brought visuals to the party – Vjing with PuttyRubber under the name of Cloud 23 they provided chill out room visuals for Oscillate at Que Club, Birmingham (which heard the likes of Orbital, Plaid, Autechre, HIA) and at Spawnee Posse’s underground gigs and Phoenix Club in Manchester.
She got into DJing a decade ago. “Doing the visuals at clubs, I noticed that all the DJs were men and decided I couldn’t let just them have all the fun,” she says. “So I bought some Denon CD decks, and started to elbow my way in!” In 2016, she co-founded B Beats, to promote successful ‘fundraver’ events – combining the old school rave ethos of beats, love and unity with raising funds for #savethebees through club events in Brighton & Brixton and more to come. She’s now super excited to be joining the UWC-radio family, whose widespread reach has a strong community ethos.
Alongside her work with B Beats, OPGroover has played solo at Meadowlands Festival, Off The Cuff London, Rising Sun Collective London, Brighton Electric and Presuming Ed’s Brighton . Her sets are built around breaks, tech-house, electro-house, bass and techno: “As long it has a good pulse to make you move! Music, dancing, colour and light are the most precious freedoms we have and we must share and celebrate them whenever possible.”
Be transported by OPG’s uplifting tech-house and funky chunky beats with a seasoning of warm vocal samples. Travel into interstellar techno & breakbeats with a dirty dose of obese bass, then be delivered back to a heightened reality with carnival-style energy & bounce : ) For an afternoon, or when the peak of the night has passed, OPG tones it down to warmer, sunshine-y tech-house vibes & electronica with a whisper of minimal techno. Expect tunes from labels such as Defected, Punks, DirtyBird, This Aint Bristol, BlackButter & Toolroom, to name a few ….
She’s also built a career as a 3D animator and VFX artist for films and TV, but still VJs regularly with PuttyRubber – including an analogue VJ set at the modular festival Machina Bristronica on 30th March and Vjing at MegaDuck @Club414 Brixton 29th April.
